Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced architectural professional to lead the operational and financial performance of a design studio. This role is ideal for a licensed architect with a strong foundation in project delivery who is ready to step into a strategic leadership position focused on studio operations, resource management, and business performance.

The Studio Operations Leader will be responsible for aligning project execution with business goals, optimizing team performance, and ensuring the studio delivers high-quality architectural solutions efficiently and profitably. This role blends deep architectural expertise with operational acumen to drive studio success.


Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Leadership: Oversee day-to-day studio operations, including staffing, scheduling, and resource allocation to ensure optimal team performance and project delivery.
  • Financial Oversight: Monitor studio financials, including project budgets, profitability, utilization, and forecasting. Recommend and implement adjustments to improve financial outcomes.
  • Project Governance: Provide oversight across all studio projects, ensuring adherence to quality standards, timelines, and client expectations.
  • Strategic Planning: Collaborate with firm leadership to develop and execute strategic plans, growth initiatives, and performance goals for the studio.
  • Talent Management: Lead staffing strategy, mentor team members, and support professional development with a focus on licensed architects and emerging professionals.
  • Client Engagement: Serve as a senior point of contact for key clients, ensuring strong relationships and consistent delivery of value.
  • Process Improvement: Identify and implement operational improvements to streamline workflows, enhance collaboration, and support design excellence.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with design directors, project managers, and technical staff to align operational goals with creative vision and project needs.
  • Risk Management: Proactively identify project and operational risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Studio Culture: Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performance studio environment that reflects the firm's values and design philosophy.

Qualifications

  • Professional degree in Architecture (B.Arch or M.Arch) required.
  • Active architectural licensure in the U.S. is required.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in the architecture or AEC industry, including significant experience in project leadership and studio operations.
  • Proven track record of managing project financials, team performance, and client relationships.
  • Strong understanding of architectural project lifecycles, from concept through construction administration.
  • Experience with project management and resource planning tools (e.g., Deltek Vision, Monograph, or similar).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and collaboration platforms such as Microsoft Teams.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to lead with empathy, clarity, and accountability in a fast-paced, creative environment.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.

Compensation

Estimated Base Salary Range: $132,000 - $175,000
