ROLE: ASPHALT SUPERINTENDENT
The Asphalt Superintendent is responsible for managing hot mix asphalt, curb, and concrete operations from initiation through completion. The role involves ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to high-quality standards. The superintendent leads field crews, makes critical decisions, and collaborates with project managers and subcontractors to drive success.
This position significantly influences project outcomes by aggressively managing production, promoting safety, mentoring team members, and delivering quality results. The individual in this role must be able to see the broader picture, adapt quickly to challenges, and make prompt decisions to maintain project momentum. Their deep knowledge of construction operations, safety protocols, and project specifications contributes to the continued strong reputation of the company. The superintendent works with a respected team in a culture that values teamwork, collaboration, and operational efficiency.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma and a minimum of 10 years' experience in heavy civil construction, or equivalent education and experience
Demonstrated leadership experience in asphalt paving and crew supervision
In-depth knowledge of materials, methods, and tools used in hot mix asphalt construction
Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, construction plans, and contracts
Understanding of construction layouts and grade setting; familiarity with GPS survey equipment is a plus
Valid driver's license and clean driving record
OSHA 10 or 30 certification, or willingness to obtain prior to employment
Ability to pass CORI background checks for projects requiring clearance (e.g., schools, military bases)
SCHEDULE & COMPENSATION
Standard operating hours are Monday through Friday, from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. During the construction season, crews typically begin at 6:30 AM and conclude around 5:00 PM, depending on project demands and the time of year (with peak periods in spring and fall).
This position can be structured as either a year-round salaried role or a seasonal (9-10 months) hourly position. Schedule preferences and business needs will be considered during the hiring process. Compensation and benefits are dependent on the classification of the role.
