Job Title: Business Development Consultant
Reports To: Business Development Team Lead
Function / Purpose
The Business Development Consultant is responsible for cultivating and expanding client relationships by applying a structured business development process and offering strategic technical and management consulting or engineering expertise. This role supports both client success and internal growth objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a business development call plan targeting new clients and identifying lateral or follow-on opportunities with existing clients.
- Contribute to annual sales goals by supporting colleagues in identifying opportunities and closing deals.
- Participate in project and proposal development by identifying improvement areas, uncovering untapped value, and proposing additional project opportunities.
- Build knowledge of utility management, control systems engineering, and/or information technology systems relevant to client operations.
- Actively engage in projects to meet both client and organizational objectives.
- Gather and communicate client feedback to internal teams and help develop strategies to enhance value and address concerns.
- Conduct assessments of client business functions-including organizational structure, practices, and technology-and provide actionable recommendations.
- Facilitate workshops to help clients reach consensus on strategic or technical issues and develop implementation plans.
- Assist in the development of IT or SCADA master plans, including project sequencing and cost estimation aligned with client goals.
- Prepare and review client-facing documentation such as business process descriptions, technical memos, software and hardware standards, testing and training plans, presentations, findings, recommendations, scopes of work, and proposal responses.
- Deliver clear and compelling presentations to clients and internal leadership.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Business, or a related field is required.
- Professional certifications such as PE license or PMP are preferred.
Experience
- 2-5 years of consulting or engineering experience, preferably within the water and wastewater utility industry.
