Position Overview
Responsible for leading all estimating activities for utility-scale electrical projects with a primary focus on substations. Oversees development of accurate, competitive, and compliant cost estimates for EPC and bid-build projects. Ensures alignment with industry standards, client specifications, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
  • Direct and manage the estimating team for utility projects, emphasizing substation construction and related infrastructure.
  • Review project specifications, drawings, and bid documents to determine scope and pricing strategy.
  • Develop detailed cost estimates including labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and indirect costs.
  • Analyze historical data, market conditions, and risk factors to ensure accurate pricing and competitive positioning.
  • Collaborate with project management, engineering, and procurement teams to validate constructability and cost assumptions.
  • Lead pre-bid meetings, clarify technical requirements, and ensure compliance with utility standards and codes.
  • Prepare and present final estimates to senior leadership for approval.
  • Maintain and update estimating databases, unit pricing, and productivity benchmarks.
  • Drive continuous improvement in estimating processes and tools.
Qualifications
  • Extensive experience in electrical construction estimating with a strong emphasis on substations and high-voltage utility projects.
  • Proven leadership in managing estimating teams and large-scale bids.
  • In-depth knowledge of NEC, NESC, and utility-specific standards.
  • Proficiency in estimating software and advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication abilities.
  • Ability to interpret complex technical documents and translate into accurate cost models.
Preferred Background
  • 10+ years in electrical construction estimating, with at least 5 years in a senior or chief estimator role.
  • Experience with EPC and bid-build delivery methods.
  • Familiarity with ISO safety standards and utility compliance requirements.
Location
Massachusetts-based role with potential regional travel for site reviews and bid meetings.
