Overview

A nationally recognized design firm is seeking a Community Studio Principal to lead its Newport Beach office's community-focused practice. This leadership role is responsible for guiding the design, delivery, and growth of projects across K‑12 education, higher education, recreation, and civic facilities.

The Community Studio Principal is an active project leader, trusted client advisor, and people‑first studio leader who mentors teams, advances design quality, and drives business growth. Candidates must be a licensed Architect.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and delivery of complex community‑based projects from concept through construction.
  • Serve as a primary client contact, providing strategic guidance and building long‑term client relationships.
  • Drive business development efforts, including identifying, pursuing, and winning new work.
  • Maintain studio financial performance, including revenue growth and profitability.
  • Build, mentor, and lead high‑performing teams focused on community projects.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and leadership across the firm to support a national community practice.
  • Promote thought leadership, innovation, and a regenerative, whole‑systems approach to design.

Requirements

  • Licensed/Registered Architect (required).
  • 10+ years of professional architectural experience, with significant focus on Community‑based work.
  • Proven leadership experience managing teams, clients, and complex projects.
  • Demonstrated success in business development and client relationship management.
  • Strong financial and operational understanding of project delivery.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
