Controls Design Engineering Manager

Position Overview:

The Design Engineering Manager will lead a team of design engineers responsible for developing and delivering innovative building automation solutions for commercial, industrial, and mission-critical facilities. This role ensures that all designs meet client requirements, industry standards, and project timelines while driving technical excellence and continuous improvement.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Team Management

    • Manage and mentor a team of design engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
    • Allocate resources effectively across multiple projects and ensure timely delivery of design packages.
    • Conduct performance reviews and support professional development.
  • Design & Technical Oversight

    • Oversee the creation of detailed engineering designs for HVAC controls, lighting systems, energy management, and integrated building automation systems.
    • Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards (ASHRAE, ISO, EN), and client specifications.
    • Review and approve design documents, schematics, and control strategies.
  • Project Coordination

    • Collaborate with project managers, sales teams, and clients to define scope, schedule, and deliverables.
    • Provide technical support during project execution, commissioning, and handover phases.
    • Manage design changes and ensure proper documentation.
  • Innovation & Continuous Improvement

    • Drive adoption of new technologies, tools, and best practices in building automation design.
    • Implement processes to improve design efficiency and reduce errors.
    • Stay current with industry trends, emerging standards, and sustainability initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field (Master's preferred).
  • Minimum 8+ years of experience in building automation or controls engineering, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, PLCs, BACnet, Modbus, and other building automation protocols.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and engineering design software.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with data center controls or mission-critical environments.
  • Familiarity with IoT integration and smart building technologies.
  • Project management certification (PMP or equivalent) is a plus.
