Our client is a well-established energy & infrastructure firm that currently acquires, develops, owns & operates their own portfolio of assets across the country including utility-scale solar, energy storage, and data centers. If you are an experienced electrical engineer who enjoys working on all things high-voltage and substations, this is a great opportunity to bring your expertise in-house on the client side.

We are seeking an experienced High Voltage (HV) Electrical Engineer to join our in‑house engineering team and support the development, construction, and long‑term operation of utility‑scale renewable energy assets & data center portfolio. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys taking full ownership of assets across their entire lifecycle, working closely with internal stakeholders, external utilities, EPCs, and engineering consultants.

You will serve as the internal HV subject matter expert, helping to bring high‑voltage and substation engineering capabilities in‑house while supporting a growing portfolio of solar, storage, and data center projects.

Areas of responsibilities:

Development & Interconnection

  • Support early‑stage project development by providing technical guidance on HV systems, substations, and interconnection strategy
  • Review and provide input on utility interconnection studies (feasibility, system impact, facilities studies)
  • Coordinate with utilities, transmission owners, ISOs/RTOs, and consultants through the interconnection process
  • Evaluate project sites from an HV and grid‑connection perspective.

Engineering & Design Oversight

  • Act as Owner's Engineer for HV, substation, and interconnection facilities
  • Review electrical design packages produced by EPCs and consultants, including:
    • Substation physical design
    • Protection & control philosophies
    • Grounding, insulation coordination, and equipment layouts
  • Review power system studies (short circuit, protection & coordination, arc flash, grounding, load flow, harmonic studies)
  • Develop and maintain internal HV and substation design standards and technical specifications

Equipment Procurement & Construction Support

  • Support procurement of HV equipment (transformers, breakers, protection relays, etc.)
  • Review vendor submittals, shop drawings, and technical datasheets
  • Provide technical support during construction, testing, and commissioning phases
  • Participate in factory acceptance tests (FATs) and site acceptance testing (SATs) as needed

Operations & Asset Management

  • Support the operations team with HV troubleshooting, outage investigations, and root‑cause analysis
  • Review relay event reports and fault data following trips or disturbances
  • Provide engineering guidance for retrofit, repair, or repowering efforts across the operating fleet
  • Support long‑term reliability, standardization, and performance of HV systems

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Minimum of 3 years US based experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in high‑voltage - substation design, protection & control design, relay familiarity, power system studies, grounding, etc.
  • Experience working with projects in the 69 kV - 345 kV (or higher) voltage range
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Substation design and/or protection concepts
    • Utility interconnection processes
    • Power system studies and grid codes
  • Experience working directly with utilities, EPCs, and third‑party engineering firms
  • Owner/operator or renewable energy project experience is a plus, but not required
  • PE license preferred but not required
