Position Overview - Control Systems Integration (Life Sciences Focus)
This position involves engineering, design, programming, and turn-key implementation of automation and process control systems, with a strong emphasis on PLC/HMI/DCS integrated industrial control systems tailored to the Pharmaceutical and Life Sciences sector. The role encompasses all phases of project execution, from kickoff through commissioning. Responsibilities include system and component specification, network and control panel design, development of construction documents, systems integration, PLC/DCS/HMI programming, system testing, commissioning, and startup.
Education & Certifications:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering from an accredited institution
Master's degree is a plus
Professional Engineer (PE) preferred
Job Responsibilities:
This role requires the ability to independently manage and perform detailed control system design across multiple complex projects with limited oversight. Responsibilities include:
Applying relevant industry standards (ANSI, ISPE, ISA, IEEE, etc.)
Conducting and reviewing engineering studies and system analyses
Preparing and evaluating specifications and cost estimates
Leading and reviewing design team efforts; monitoring scope changes
Overseeing documentation, panel drawings, and construction plans
Collaborating with code officials and other professionals on code interpretations
Coordinating with other engineering disciplines
Managing commissioning and qualification of automated systems
Required Qualifications:
8+ years of experience in control system design
Experience with distributed control systems, ideally in Life Sciences (other industries considered: industrial, oil & gas, power, food & beverage)
Proficiency with both digital and analog instrumentation (e.g., pressure, flow, level, pH, CO2, etc.)
Knowledge of electrical components and field devices (e.g., VFDs, MCCs, heat trace)
Ability to develop and review electrical construction and control panel drawings
Experience with Rockwell systems (Logix processors and HMIs), including new development and modification
Familiarity with communication protocols (TCP/IP, Modbus, Profibus, etc.)
Experience with platforms such as PlantPax, Wonderware, IFix, Maple, Delta V, Siemens, and others is a plus
SCADA and SQL programming experience is a plus
Experience with data historians (e.g., AVEVA PI System) is a plus
Understanding of hazardous area requirements (NFPA 70), NFPA 79, and ISA standards
Ability to interpret and contribute to P&IDs
Knowledge of GMP, ISPE, and GAMP 5 standards is preferred
Experience with computerized system qualification and acceptance testing is preferred
Capability to design robust safety circuits for varied industrial environments
Strong communication skills with the ability to maintain and grow customer relationships
