Engineering Manager - Water Infrastructure (Victoria)
About the Opportunity
An established and growing engineering consultancy within the Australian water sector is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead and expand its Victoria-based engineering capability.
This is a unique opportunity for an experienced engineering leader to build and shape a multidisciplinary design team while supporting the delivery of major water and wastewater infrastructure programs across Victoria and the broader east coast.
The successful candidate will play a key role in establishing and growing a high-performing engineering function, combining technical leadership, team development, project delivery, and client engagement.
The Role
Reporting into senior leadership, you will be responsible for growing and leading a multidisciplinary engineering team focused on the planning, design, delivery, and optimisation of water infrastructure assets.
This role will suit a hands-on leader who is equally comfortable engaging with clients, mentoring engineers, solving technical challenges, and helping scale a growing business.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the delivery of complex water and wastewater infrastructure projects across planning, design, and delivery phases.
- Growing and developing a multidisciplinary engineering team in Victoria.
- Providing technical oversight and governance across civil, structural, mechanical, and process design activities.
- Working closely with project delivery teams, contractors, asset owners, and key stakeholders.
- Supporting project planning, resourcing, risk management, and commercial performance.
- Driving a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and collaboration.
- Contributing to strategic growth initiatives and helping expand the organisation's presence within the Victorian water market.
- Identifying opportunities to improve project outcomes, operational efficiency, and client value.
About You
You are an experienced engineering leader with a strong background in water infrastructure and a track record of delivering complex projects, building teams, and influencing stakeholders.
You bring a practical, solutions-focused mindset and enjoy operating in entrepreneurial environments where you can create impact and help shape the future direction of the business.
Ideally, you will possess:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Process or related Engineering discipline.
- 15+ years of experience within water and wastewater infrastructure.
- Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Strong understanding of project delivery, design management, and contractor-led environments.
- Proven ability to manage client relationships and engage effectively with stakeholders.
- Experience delivering projects for utilities, government authorities, contractors, or engineering consultancies.
- Strong commercial awareness and understanding of project financial performance.
- Chartered Engineer status or equivalent professional accreditation highly desirable.
What We're Looking For
The ideal individual will combine:
- Strong technical credibility.
- Excellent leadership and mentoring capability.
- Commercial awareness and client focus.
- Ability to build and scale teams.
- Experience operating within fast-paced project delivery environments.
- A collaborative, pragmatic approach to solving problems.
Most importantly, we're looking for someone who enjoys building something, not simply maintaining what's already there.
Why Join?
- Opportunity to establish and lead a growing engineering function in Victoria.
- Influence the direction and growth of a well-respected engineering business.
- Work on strategically important water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
- Join a highly collaborative leadership team with ambitious growth plans.
