Environmental Planner

Our client is seeking a skilled Environmental Planner to support planning and environmental compliance for municipal infrastructure and community development projects. This role focuses on ensuring city-led initiatives meet environmental regulations while promoting sustainable growth and resilience. *Reporting to Redding, CA office 2/3 days a week is required*

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and manage environmental documentation for city projects in compliance with CEQA, NEPA, and local ordinances.
  • Support planning and permitting for municipal infrastructure such as roads, parks, public buildings, and water/wastewater systems.
  • Conduct environmental impact assessments and mitigation planning.
  • Coordinate with city departments, regional agencies, and the public to ensure transparent and compliant project development.
  • Review development proposals for environmental consistency with city plans and policies.
  • Assist in grant applications and reporting for environmentally focused funding opportunities.
  • Monitor project sites for environmental compliance during construction phases.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Planning, Urban Planning, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in environmental planning, preferably in a municipal or public sector setting.
  • Strong working knowledge of CEQA, NEPA, and California environmental regulations.
  • Experience with public engagement and interagency coordination.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in GIS and environmental modeling tools is a plus.

  • Experience with stormwater management, habitat conservation, and climate adaptation strategies.
  • Ability to interpret and apply local zoning and land use regulations.
  • Knowledge of grant writing and funding mechanisms for public infrastructure.
