Estimator
Our client is seeking a skilled Heavy Civil/Paving/Grading Estimator to join their team in Concord, CA. This individual will play a key role in developing accurate, competitive estimates for roadway, highway, paving, and grading projects across the region. If you have a strong background in civil construction takeoffs, bid preparation, and cost analysis, we want to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates and proposals for heavy civil, roadway, highway, paving, and grading projects.
- Analyze project plans, specifications, and geotechnical reports to determine scope and material quantities.
- Perform earthwork, paving, and grading takeoffs using industry‑standard software.
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes to ensure competitive and accurate pricing.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field personnel to refine estimates and project approaches.
- Participate in bid reviews, value engineering discussions, and post-bid negotiations as needed.
- Maintain historical cost data and update unit pricing and production rates regularly.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience as an Estimator working directly on heavy road/highway, paving, and grading projects.
- Strong knowledge of civil construction means and methods, particularly earthwork and asphalt paving.
- Proficiency with estimating and takeoff software (e.g., HCSS HeavyBid, Agtek, Bluebeam).
- Ability to read and interpret civil plans, specifications, and construction documents.
- Excellent mathematical, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
- Detail‑oriented with strong organizational and time‑management abilities.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
