Mechanical Project Engineer
Role Overview
Seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer to join a growing MEP engineering team. This role is responsible for planning, coordinating, and integrating engineering activities, as well as developing project deliverables to ensure successful outcomes. The position involves overseeing the design process, managing changes to specifications, and delegating tasks to designers and engineers. Work includes HVAC system design for industrial, institutional, educational, hospitality, governmental, residential, retail, and commercial facilities. Strong industrial project experience is a plus. The ideal candidate will mentor staff, interact with clients, and collaborate with the broader team.
General Responsibilities
- Understand project objectives, scope, deliverables, and budget implications.
- Apply experience in both design/bid/build and design/build project delivery methods.
- Establish design criteria, including system selections and energy analysis.
- Supervise staff performing calculations, design, and equipment coordination.
- Manage development of construction documents and project deliverables.
- Perform and review design calculations; assign tasks to project team members.
- Review computer and manual calculations for accuracy and compliance.
- Coordinate with all design disciplines throughout the project lifecycle.
- Conduct field surveys and prepare reports.
- Assist in cost estimates during design phases.
- Prepare project specifications and perform periodic design reviews.
- Ensure compliance with codes, regulations, and contract requirements.
- Review shop drawings for adherence to project specifications.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- PE license required.
- 7-10 years of experience in consulting engineering.
- Expertise in HVAC design, including refrigeration, air and water distribution systems.
- Working knowledge of Revit and software such as Trane Trace.
- Familiarity with process piping, fire protection, and plumbing systems.
- Knowledge of mechanical codes and standards.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
