MEP Project Manager / Electrical SME - Data Centers
Location: Flexible across U.S. office hubs (Charlotte, NC; Lexington, KY; Dallas, TX; Atlanta, GA; Phoenix, AZ)
About the Role
A leading international general contractor is seeking an experienced MEP Project Manager / Electrical Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join its mission-critical projects team.
This position focuses on delivery for large-scale data center projects, with a strong emphasis on electrical systems. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring technical excellence and efficient project execution from preconstruction through delivery and commissioning support.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Delivery
- Lead MEP project delivery, with particular focus on electrical scope, across complex data center builds
- Oversee multiple project phases, ensuring alignment with schedule, budget, and quality targets and communication between teams.
- Coordinate closely with site teams, scheduling, commissioning, and clients
- Monitor progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies
Electrical Subject Matter Expertise
- Serve as the electrical SME across all project phases
- Provide technical oversight for:
- High-voltage (HV), medium-voltage (MV), and low-voltage (LV) systems
- UPS systems, backup generation, and redundancy configurations
- Switchgear, transformers, and busway distribution systems
- Review designs, shop drawings, RFIs, and submittals to ensure constructability and compliance
Stakeholder & Client Engagement
- Act as a key liaison between clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams
- Lead coordination meetings with MEP trades and design partners
- Provide technical guidance and respond to client queries related to electrical systems
Preconstruction & Planning
- Support preconstruction efforts including constructability reviews and value engineering
- Provide input into procurement strategies for MEP packages
- Assist in developing detailed MEP schedules, sequencing, and logistics plans
Quality, Safety & Commissioning
- Ensure compliance with all relevant codes, standards, and safety regulations
- Drive QA/QC processes and ensure electrical work meets project specifications
- Support commissioning readiness, testing protocols, and system turnover
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Proven experience as an MEP Project Manager, Electrical Lead, or similar within a general contractor environment
- Required: Prior data center project experience (hyperscale or enterprise)
- Strong expertise in electrical infrastructure delivery for complex construction projects
- Demonstrated ability to manage subcontractors and coordinate multidisciplinary teams
- Familiarity with commissioning processes and project turnover
Technical Skills
- Advanced knowledge of:
- HV/MV/LV power distribution
- Critical systems (UPS, generators, redundancy architectures)
- Integrated MEP coordination and sequencing
- Experience with BIM and coordination tools is an advantage
