About the Company

The company is a fast-growing renewable energy developer backed by newly secured capital and poised for significant expansion in the Japanese market. With an ambition to build a 600 MW to 1 GW renewable energy pipeline within the next five years, the company is strengthening its development team to accelerate growth in both utility-scale Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects.

Role Overview

As a Project Developer, you will play a central role in originating, developing, and advancing renewable energy projects across Japan. You will work across the full development cycle-focusing particularly on permitting, land acquisition, local community engagement, stakeholder management, and coordination with authorities.

This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a hands-on environment, enjoys relationship-building, and is motivated to contribute to Japan's accelerating clean energy transition.

Key Responsibilities

Project Sourcing & Origination

  • Identify, evaluate, and originate new Solar PV and BESS project opportunities
  • Conduct initial due diligence, feasibility checks, and land screening

Land Development & Permitting

  • Secure land rights through direct landowner negotiations
  • Manage permitting processes, including applications to local authorities, utilities, and METI
  • Coordinate environmental assessments and regulatory compliance

Local Stakeholder & Community Engagement

  • Build strong relationships with landowners, local communities, and municipal officials
  • Communicate project plans clearly and address concerns to maintain strong community alignment

Project Management

  • Managing scheduling and project milestones
  • Work closely with internal engineering, legal, and finance teams
  • Select and manage external consultants, surveyors, and permitting specialists

Qualifications & Experience

Required

  • Experience in renewable energy development (Solar, BESS, or related infrastructure)
  • Proven track record in permitting, land development, and dealing with local authorities
  • Strong communication skills with ability to build trust with landowners and communities
  • Business-level Japanese (native or fluent) and Basic English skills

Preferred

  • Experience taking projects from early development through to late-stage milestones
  • Understanding of grid connection processes in Japan
  • Background in utility-scale energy, development firms, or EPCs
  • Ability to travel regionally for site visits and stakeholder meetings
