Project Executive (NYC)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Project Executive to lead and oversee multiple heavy civil infrastructure projects across New York City. As a key senior leader within our general contracting organization, the Project Executive is responsible for strategic project direction, client relationship management, operational oversight, profit and loss performance, and ensuring successful execution of complex civil construction work in one of the most demanding urban environments in the world.

The ideal candidate has deep experience in public and private civil infrastructure programs, a strong command of NYC agency processes, and a proven ability to lead multi‑disciplinary teams delivering large‑scale projects safely, efficiently, and with exceptional quality.


Key Responsibilities

Strategic Project Leadership

  • Provide executive‑level oversight for multiple infrastructure projects including transportation systems, utilities, foundations, bridges, tunnels, and roadway reconstruction.
  • Ensure project teams meet performance objectives related to schedule, budget, safety, and quality.
  • Set strategic direction, guide high-level planning, and support critical decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.

Client & Stakeholder Management

  • Serve as primary executive liaison to clients such as NYC DOT, DEP, DDC, MTA, Port Authority, and private developers.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with owners, engineers, government agencies, utilities, and community stakeholders.
  • Lead high-level progress meetings and present operational updates and risk assessments.

Financial & Operational Oversight

  • Own project financial performance, including budget approval, resource planning, cost control, and profitability.
  • Review and approve subcontract agreements, procurement packages, major change orders, and claims strategies.
  • Monitor project forecasts and implement corrective actions to maintain commercial targets.

Risk Management & Compliance

  • Identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies related to schedule, logistics, environmental compliance, permitting, and community impact.
  • Ensure all work complies with NYC regulations, including DOB, DOT, DEP, MTA, and applicable safety standards (OSHA, NYC SST).

Team Leadership & Development

  • Mentor and support project managers, superintendents, engineers, and field leadership to build high-performing teams.
  • Facilitate staff development, succession planning, and the company's overall talent strategy.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and safety.

Construction Excellence

  • Oversee project execution approaches, means and methods, and constructability reviews.
  • Drive continuous improvement in field operations, productivity, and safety culture.
  • Support resolution of engineering challenges, unforeseen conditions, and complex logistics unique to NYC urban construction environments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline required; advanced degree preferred.
  • 12+ years of experience in heavy civil construction, with at least 5 years in a senior-level leadership role.
  • Proven track record delivering major civil projects in NYC with agencies such as DOT, DEP, DDC, MTA, SCA, or Port Authority.
  • Strong understanding of civil construction methods, utilities, geotechnical conditions, and large-scale infrastructure systems.
  • Demonstrated experience managing project financials, contract negotiations, and client relationships.
  • OSHA 30 and NYC SST Supervisor certificate preferred.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
