An established, specialist contaminated land consultancy operating across Aotearoa New Zealand is seeking to appoint a senior-level contaminated land professional to join its practitioner-led business.
The consultancy is known for its technical excellence, senior delivery model, and strong reputation for resolving complex contaminated land and groundwater issues for private sector clients, local authorities, and iwi. The business operates as a collective of experienced practitioners, with a strong emphasis on professional autonomy, ethical practice, and staff wellbeing.
The Opportunity
This is a senior, autonomous role suited to an experienced professional who prefers flexibility, independence, and being rewarded directly for output rather than operating within a traditional corporate consulting structure.
The role is open to candidates based outside New Zealand, provided they are willing to relocate to and work from regional New Zealand.
Acceptable locations include (but are not limited to):
Northland, Gisborne, Taranaki, Whanganui-Manawatū, Marlborough, West Coast, Otago, or Southland.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead contaminated land investigations, remediation, and validation projects
- Act as the senior technical authority across the full project lifecycle
- Engage directly with clients, regulators, and key stakeholders
- Contribute to regional growth and business development (desirable, not mandatory)
- Operate with a high degree of independence and accountability
About You
You are a self-directed, senior contaminated land professional who thrives with autonomy and responsibility.
Essential requirements:
- Hold arecognised professional certification, such as:
- CEnvP-SC (Australia)
- SiLC (United Kingdom)
- PGeol / PG (United States - e.g. California)
- or equivalent international accreditation
- Strong technical background in contaminated land assessment and remediation
- Excellent time management and self-organisation skills
- Comfortable working remotely and managing your own workload
Desirable:
- Business development capability or interest
- Experience working across different regulatory jurisdictions
- Practical, solutions-focused consulting approach
