Senior Piping Designer

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Piping Designer to join our collaborative engineering team. This role follows a hybrid work schedule, with three days onsite and two days remote each week, offering both flexibility and team engagement.

Options to work either out of our Chicago, IL or Tampa, FL office locations.

Key Responsibilities

As a vital member of our mechanical / power generation design group, you will:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to develop detailed 3D mechanical layout models.
  • Tackle complex design challenges involving mechanical systems, including troubleshooting and resolving design issues.
  • Create and refine mechanical schematics using advanced 3D modeling tools.
  • Coordinate and contribute to all phases of detailed mechanical design, ensuring integration across disciplines.
  • Support project teams by delivering accurate and timely design documentation.
  • Independently produce key deliverables such as general arrangements, piping isometrics, composite layouts, pipe supports, and equipment placement drawings.
  • Participate in site visits with engineers to conduct field walkdowns and gather critical data.
  • Mentor junior designers and drafters, offering guidance on drafting tools and design best practices.

Required Qualifications

  • U.S. work authorization is required; sponsorship is not available for this role.
  • Associate degree in drafting, or a high school diploma with relevant coursework or equivalent technical experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience in mechanical design, including piping systems and support structures.
  • Proficiency in 3D plant layout modeling software.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical equipment interfaces and the ability to coordinate related design deliverables.
  • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams in industrial or power plant environments.

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with MicroStation.
  • Experience working with laser scanning and point cloud data.
