Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Transportation Engineer to lead and support transportation engineering projects across Indiana. This role involves overseeing roadway design, mentoring engineering staff, coordinating with transportation agencies, and delivering high‑quality plans for public and private sector clients. The ideal candidate brings strong technical design expertise, proven project leadership, and a deep understanding of INDOT standards and procedures.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, design, and delivery of transportation infrastructure projects, including:
    • Roadway and highway design
    • Intersection improvements
    • Corridor studies
    • Safety and mobility projects
    • Multimodal/complete streets solutions
  • Serve as Project Manager or Lead Engineer, ensuring successful execution of scope, schedule, budget, and quality.
  • Prepare and review engineering calculations, design plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Oversee production of design documents using MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, and related software.
  • Coordinate with INDOT, MPOs, local public agencies, utilities, and other project stakeholders.
  • Conduct QA/QC reviews on deliverables to ensure compliance with INDOT and FHWA standards.
  • Manage project teams, including task assignment, mentoring, and performance guidance.
  • Support and lead proposal development, client presentations, and business development initiatives.
  • Provide technical input on project scoping, estimating, and design strategy.
  • Participate in field reviews, site assessments, and coordination meetings as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Indiana.
  • Minimum 8-12+ years of transportation engineering experience.
  • Strong proficiency in INDOT design standards, agency workflows, and permitting processes.
  • Experience with MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, and transportation design software.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and lead multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with clients and internal staff.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Local Public Agency (LPA) project development.
  • Familiarity with federal- and state-funded project requirements.
  • Experience preparing traffic control plans, signing and pavement marking plans, or traffic analysis.
  • Understanding of hydraulic/drainage design related to transportation projects.
  • Prior experience mentoring junior engineers and designers.
  • Business development and client relationship management experience.
