Structural Engineer
We are seeking a highly motivated Structural Engineer to support the Structural Mechanics Group (SMG) in Oregon. This role is responsible for performing structural analysis, providing design guidance, and supporting verification activities for structural systems and components across multiple stages of development and sustainment. The Structural Engineer will apply fundamental engineering principles and advanced analytical techniques to ensure structural integrity, safety, and compliance with applicable requirements.
This position works closely with multidisciplinary teams including design, manufacturing, quality, and test engineering. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong technical rigor, sound engineering judgment, and the ability to communicate complex structural concepts clearly and effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform structural analyses including stress, strain, fatigue, buckling, vibration, and thermal effects
- Develop, review, and maintain finite element models and classical hand calculations
- Support structural sizing, margin assessments, and load path evaluations
- Participate in design reviews and provide structural input during concept and detailed design phases
- Support development and execution of structural testing and correlate analytical models to test results
- Investigate structural issues, perform root-cause analysis, and support corrective actions
- Review engineering drawings and specifications for structural adequacy
- Prepare and maintain clear technical reports and analysis documentation
- Provide manufacturing, assembly, and sustainment support as needed
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline
- Strong foundation in structural mechanics and materials
- Experience or coursework related to structural analysis methods
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical requirements
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work onsite in an Oregon-based engineering or manufacturing environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a structurally focused engineering discipline
- Experience with finite element analysis tools or structural testing
- Familiarity with applicable engineering codes and standards
- Experience supporting production or hardware-based programs
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or progress toward licensure
Work Environment
This role involves a combination of office-based analytical work and on-site support in laboratory, manufacturing, or test environments. Occasional travel within Oregon may be required.
