Traffic Engineers - WA

We are seeking an experienced Senior Traffic Engineer to join our Spokane‑based team. This role will lead traffic engineering and transportation planning efforts for public‑ and private‑sector projects throughout Eastern Washington. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, project leadership experience, and a deep understanding of Washington State and local agency standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead traffic engineering and traffic operations analyses for transportation, land development, and capital improvement projects
  • Prepare and oversee traffic impact analyses (TIA/TIS), safety studies, corridor studies, and multimodal evaluations
  • Design traffic control solutions including intersection geometry, signal timing and phasing, signing, striping, and ITS elements
  • Serve as Project Manager or Technical Lead, overseeing scope, schedule, budget, and staffing
  • Coordinate with WSDOT, City of Spokane, Spokane County, local jurisdictions, and MPOs
  • Review and stamp traffic engineering deliverables in accordance with Washington State regulations
  • Provide technical mentoring and guidance to junior engineers and planners
  • Participate in public meetings, agency reviews, and stakeholder coordination
  • Support proposal development, client management, and business development efforts as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or related field
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Washington State (or ability to obtain via comity)
  • 10+ years of traffic/transportation engineering experience, preferably with consulting or public agencies
  • Strong working knowledge of:
    • WSDOT Design Manual (M22‑01)
    • MUTCD & Washington MUTCD
    • HCM methodologies
    • Local agency development standards and access management
  • Experience with traffic modeling and analysis software such as Synchro, SimTraffic, VISSIM, SIDRA, HCS, or TransModeler
  • Proficiency with MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and data analysis tools
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working on projects in Eastern Washington or with rural and urban roadway systems
  • Background in signal systems, traffic safety, or multimodal planning
  • Experience mentoring staff and leading multidisciplinary teams
  • Familiarity with grant-funded transportation projects and public engagement efforts
