Position Summary

We are seeking a strategic and experienced Chief Estimator to lead our estimating department. This executive-level role is responsible for overseeing all estimating operations, ensuring accuracy, competitiveness, and alignment with business goals. The Chief Estimator will play a key role in high-level bid strategy, team leadership, and client engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the estimating team, providing mentorship, oversight, and performance evaluations.
  • Develop and implement estimating procedures, tools, and best practices to ensure consistency and accuracy.
  • Oversee the preparation of detailed cost estimates for large-scale mechanical projects, including HVAC, plumbing, and process piping.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership, project managers, and business development teams to align estimating strategies with company objectives.
  • Review and approve final bids and proposals, ensuring competitiveness and profitability.
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients, subcontractors, and vendors to support preconstruction efforts.
  • Analyze market trends, labor rates, and material costs to inform pricing strategies.
  • Participate in contract negotiations and risk assessments for major projects.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in mechanical estimating, with at least 3 years in a senior or leadership role.
  • Deep knowledge of mechanical systems, construction methods, and industry standards.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.
  • Strong business acumen and strategic thinking.
  • Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Trimble, QuickPen, Bluebeam, or similar).
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (preferred).
  • Professional certifications (e.g., ASPE Certified Professional Estimator) are a plus.
