Distribution Planning Engineer
About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Distribution Planning Engineer to join our team and support the planning and analysis of electric distribution systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical foundation in distribution system studies and experience using industry-standard modeling tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform distribution system planning studies, including:
- Load flow analysis
- Voltage drop calculations
- Short-circuit analysis
- Protection coordination
- Develop and maintain distribution system models using tools such as CYME, Synergi, or similar platforms.
- Analyze system performance under normal and contingency conditions to ensure reliability and compliance with standards.
- Support integration of distributed energy resources (DERs) and evaluate their impact on the distribution network.
- Prepare technical reports, planning documents, and recommendations for system improvements.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to implement planning solutions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- 3+ years of experience in electric distribution planning or related engineering role.
- Proficiency in CYME or equivalent distribution analysis software.
- Strong understanding of:
- Power system fundamentals
- Load flow and short-circuit studies
- Protection principles
- Familiarity with regulatory standards and utility planning practices.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with DER integration studies.
- Knowledge of GIS and data analytics tools.
- Familiarity with reliability metrics and planning criteria.
