Drainage Engineer

We are working with a client who is looking for a highly motivated Drainage Engineer to join our growing civil infrastructure team in Phoenix, Arizona, a region where effective stormwater management is critical due to its unique desert climate and rapid urban development. This role involves designing and analyzing drainage systems that protect communities from flooding, support sustainable land development, and comply with local, state, and federal regulations. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping infrastructure projects by applying advanced hydrologic and hydraulic principles to real-world challenges, collaborating with engineers, planners, and public agencies to deliver resilient and cost-effective drainage solutions tailored to the arid Southwest.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic modeling for stormwater systems, culverts, detention/retention basins, and open channels.
  • Prepare drainage reports, construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Conduct floodplain analysis and ensure compliance with FEMA, ADOT, and local agency standards.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including roadway, structural, and environmental engineers.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior staff and review their work for accuracy and quality.
  • Coordinate with clients, municipalities, and regulatory agencies.
  • Support project management tasks including scheduling, budgeting, and client communication.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • PE license in Arizona (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
  • 3-10+ years of relevant experience in drainage or water resources engineering.
  • Proficiency in hydrology and hydraulic software such as HEC-RAS (1D/2D), HEC-HMS, FLO-2D, HY-8, StormCAD, SWMM, and QGIS.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, or OpenRoads.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of local drainage design standards and permitting processes.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with ProjectWise or similar document management systems.
  • Familiarity with erosion control, sediment transport, and river mechanics.
  • Prior work with ADOT, Maricopa County, or other Arizona municipalities
