Project Surveyor - RPLS
A national leading engineering consultancy is seeking a Project Surveyor to provide leadership, technical expertise, and quality oversight for survey projects within the organization's power and renewables sector. This role is responsible for directing, coordinating, implementing, and ensuring the successful completion of survey activities, while maintaining high standards for quality control, project execution, and professional conduct.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead the planning and implementation of survey projects while monitoring operational effectiveness throughout the project lifecycle.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in survey-related tasks including construction staking, topographic surveying, platting, legal descriptions, boundary analysis, and exhibit preparation.
- Interpret and apply state statutes, minimum survey standards, and legal principles required for compliant project execution.
- Evaluate complex title and boundary matters and maintain detailed records of decisions, analyses, and issues encountered.
- Collaborate with project leadership to define project tasks, scheduling needs, staffing levels, and resource requirements.
- Assist in project budgeting, scope evaluation, and fee assessment.
- Support the enforcement of organizational standards, policies, and procedures.
- Participate in project coordination meetings with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Direct field crews and oversee the execution of field survey operations.
- Stay informed of evolving technologies, software, equipment, and industry trends related to surveying.
- Conduct occasional courthouse research as needed for project records or boundary confirmation.
- Perform quality assurance and quality control for all survey-related deliverables.
- Lead by example with professionalism, solid judgment, integrity, transparency, and reliability.
- Provide mentorship and day‑to‑day guidance to survey team staff.
- Manage multiple priorities effectively and consistently exercise sound independent judgment.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Active Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license required; multi‑state licensure preferred.
- Minimum two‑year surveying degree required; four‑year degree preferred. Equivalent experience (5+ years in a consulting or professional services environment) may be considered.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated leadership and supervisory capability.
