Senior Civil/Structural Engineer - Job Description

A private engineering services company is seeking a Senior Civil/Structural Engineer to join a team-focused organization where employee wellbeing, professional input, and sound business practices guide decision-making.

Position Summary

The Senior Civil/Structural Engineer is responsible for the quality and accuracy of calculations, engineering drawings, specifications, and compliance with project schedules and budgets.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Lead Engineer when assigned, including sealing all Civil/Structural documents as a licensed P.E.
  • Generate and review calculations, specifications, and drawings.
  • Thoroughly review CAD drawings.
  • Supervise, mentor, and collaborate with engineers, designers, and CAD drafters, and coordinate with other disciplines.
  • Design steel structures, concrete structures, and foundations for structures and equipment.
  • Design underground piping systems, sumps, and drainage solutions.
  • Prepare architectural layouts, man-hour estimates, staffing plans, and material take-offs.
  • Prepare Civil/Structural/Architectural (CSA) scope summaries and deliver project technical documents.
  • Deliver technical documentation on schedule and within budget.
  • Contribute to updates of departmental procedures, standards, and specifications.
  • Support performance management processes and assist team members in meeting performance objectives.
  • Maintain a high level of technical competency and participate in ongoing training.
  • Travel domestically and internationally as required.

Qualifications

  • B.S. or M.S. in Civil Engineering.
  • 15-25 years of experience in refining, fertilizer, pharmaceutical, or chemical industries.
  • Current Professional Engineer (P.E.) license with willingness to obtain additional state registrations.
  • NCEES Record or willingness to obtain one.
  • Ability to obtain required federal access credentials (e.g., TWIC).
  • Proficiency in STAAD.Pro, Microsoft Word, and Excel.
  • Proficiency in spMats and spColumn.
  • Working knowledge of CAD platforms such as MicroStation, BricsCAD, and AutoCAD.
  • Strong working knowledge of IBC, OSHA standards, ASCE‑7, and relevant state building codes.
  • Skilled in using NavisWorks with 3D laser scans.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
  • Experience with site drainage, underground piping, and architectural work is a plus.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
