Substation Design Lead

Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and driven Substation Design Engineering Lead to oversee the design and delivery of high-voltage substation projects across the U.S. This fully remote role is ideal for a seasoned engineer who excels in technical leadership, project coordination, and mentoring design teams. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of substation design, including physical layout, equipment selection, and integration with protection and control systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of detailed substation design packages, including physical layout, grounding, conduit, and structural components.
  • Provide technical oversight and quality assurance for engineering deliverables across multiple projects.
  • Collaborate with project managers, clients, and internal teams to ensure designs meet scope, schedule, and budget requirements.
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers, fostering technical growth and consistency in design standards.
  • Review and approve engineering drawings, specifications, and calculations.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and utility requirements (e.g., IEEE, NESC, NEC).
  • Support proposal development, cost estimation, and client presentations as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Civil, or Structural Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience in substation design engineering, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and substation design tools.
  • Strong understanding of utility standards and transmission/distribution systems.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage remote teams effectively.
