Water Resources Engineer
Water Resources Engineer, P.E.
Locations: Tampa, Jacksonville, or Orlando, Florida
This firm is seeking an experienced Water Resources Engineer, P.E. to join their Florida Water Resources team. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys tackling complex, large-scale hydrologic and hydraulic challenges and wants to be deeply involved in projects from concept through field validation.
With several major clients owning vast landholdings across Florida, this position will focus on large-scale watershed and floodplain modeling, providing critical insight to landowners, developers, and public agencies on flood risk, developable acreage, and long-term stormwater strategy.
What You'll Be Working On
- Large-area hydrologic and hydraulic modeling for expansive landholdings and regional-scale studies
- Floodplain mapping and re-mapping, supporting land value assessments and development planning
- Desktop analyses and GIS-based reviews, followed by field verification and model refinement
- Stormwater management design for land development projects (with some municipal work)
- Coordination with clients, internal design teams, and regulatory agencies
- Applying innovative engineering approaches to solve complex water resources problems
This role offers the opportunity to work on projects that are broader and more technically challenging than typical site-scale stormwater designs - ideal for engineers who want to push beyond standard models and think at the watershed scale.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field (Master's preferred)
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license (Necessary)
- Approximately 4-15 years of experience in water resources engineering
- Strong background in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, particularly for large or complex systems
- Experience with land development stormwater design; municipal experience is a plus
Technical Skills
- Proficiency with industry-standard modeling tools such as HEC-HMS, HEC‑RAS (1D/2D), ICPR, or similar
- Strong GIS skills (ArcGIS or equivalent) for desktop analyses and floodplain evaluation
- Familiarity with drainage design, flood studies, and permitting in Florida
- Ability to integrate field observations into model calibration and refinement
- Clear technical writing and communication skills
What Sets You Apart
- A problem-solver mindset with a drive to think creatively and innovatively
- Comfort working independently on large, technically demanding studies
- Interest in understanding the "big picture" of watershed and floodplain behaviour
- Strong coordination skills when working across disciplines and offices
Why This Firm?
- Diverse project portfolio with significant large-scale modeling work
- Collaborative, employee-focused culture with long-term career growth
- Flexible location options across Tampa, Jacksonville, or Orlando
- Opportunity to work on high-impact projects with real land-use and economic implications
If you're a Water Resources Engineer who enjoys complex modeling, field-informed engineering, and solving problems that don't have cookie-cutter answers, this firm offers a platform to do meaningful, challenging work across Florida.
