Chief Estimator

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Chief Estimator to lead our estimating department and oversee all aspects of mechanical cost estimating for commercial and industrial construction projects. This leadership role is responsible for managing the estimating team, developing bid strategies, and ensuring the delivery of accurate, competitive, and timely proposals.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and mentor a team of estimators, ensuring consistent processes and high-quality output.
• Oversee the preparation of detailed cost estimates for HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems.
• Develop and implement estimating standards, tools, and best practices.
• Collaborate with executive leadership, project managers, and preconstruction teams to align estimating efforts with company goals.
• Review project plans, specifications, and bid documents to assess scope and risk.
• Evaluate subcontractor and supplier proposals for accuracy and competitiveness.
• Participate in bid strategy meetings and client presentations.
• Maintain and update historical cost data and market pricing trends.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and client requirements.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
• 10+ years of experience in mechanical estimating, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
• Extensive knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems in commercial construction.
• Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Trimble, QuickPen, FastPIPE) and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple complex bids under tight deadlines.
• Deep understanding of construction contracts, procurement, and risk management.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with design-build and negotiated projects.
• Familiarity with BIM and model-based estimating.
• Strong network of subcontractors and suppliers in the regional market.
