About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to join our team in Tokyo and play a key role in supporting our renewable energy and BESS projects across Japan. This position will work closely with the APAC headquarters and provide strategic legal guidance to ensure successful project development and execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all legal matters related to renewable energy and BESS projects in Japan.
- Advise on project development, land acquisition, real estate transactions, and financing structures.
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, including EPC, O&M, and financing agreements.
- Ensure compliance with Japanese laws and regulations relevant to energy projects.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external counsel to mitigate risks and resolve legal issues.
- Support corporate governance and regulatory filings as required.
Requirements
- Experience: 5-15 years post-qualification experience in legal practice.
- Minimum 3 years in an established law firm, preferably with exposure to energy, infrastructure, or real estate sectors.
- Strong knowledge of real estate acquisition, land acquisition, or financing is highly preferred.
- Language: Bilingual proficiency in English and Japanese (written and spoken).
- Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
