With over 60 years of experience and a growing presence across North America, our client has a passion for shaping the future of mobility and is seeking a California-based Principal Planner to join a dynamic planning team. This is an opportunity for a transportation planning expert to lead high-impact projects, drive business development, and shape the strategic direction of a growing public sector portfolio across California based out of their Los Angeles office.

Position Overview

As a Principal Planner, you'll work with multidisciplinary teams and be apart of delivering strategic transportation planning and policy projects for clients such as SCAG, LA Metro, SANDAG, LADOT, Caltrans, SACOG, MTC, Metrolink, and BART.

What You'll Do

  • Provide support on project execution, ensuring alignment with scope, budget, and quality standards
  • Collaborate with internal teams, clients, and stakeholders to deliver impactful solutions
  • Present to clients and other stakeholders
  • Build and maintain strong client and partner relationships to support long-term growth

Qualifications

Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of California transportation agencies, planning processes, and policy frameworks
  • Experience with travel market analysis, GIS, data analytics, and modeling tools
  • Experience working with transit agencies is a plus
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Soft Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills
  • Collaborative, proactive, and detail-oriented
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, client-facing environments

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Transportation, Public Policy, Civil Engineering, or related field (Master's preferred)
  • 4+ years of relevant transportation planning experience
  • Proven success in project delivery, client engagement, and cross-team collaboration

Compensation

💵 $100,000 - $130,000 (based on experience and location)
🎯 Potential annual bonus
