Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior / Associate ESD Engineer / Consultant to lead the firm's New South Wales presence across design‑led sustainability, project delivery, and client engagement. Based in Surry Hills, this role acts as the trusted lead for NSW projects while championing the organisation's values and sustainability approach across the market.

You will drive project leadership, business development, stakeholder relationships, and strategic growth in NSW, working closely with national leadership to expand capability, visibility, and impact.

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership & Delivery

  • Lead NSW-based ESD projects end-to-end, managing client communication, scope, risk, timelines, deliverables, and quality.
  • Coordinate multi-disciplinary teams and collaborate with internal subject matter experts across Australia.
  • Conduct workshops, stakeholder engagements, and presentations delivering clear, evidence-based sustainability insights.
  • Ensure projects meet internal technical standards, quality assurance processes, and best practice methodologies.

Business Development & Client Engagement

  • Act as the primary point of contact for NSW clients, partners, and collaborators.
  • Support a metrics-driven BD strategy for NSW in alignment with national priorities.
  • Build and nurture long-term relationships, driving repeat work and referrals.
  • Lead the preparation of proposals, EOIs, and interviews as the designated NSW project lead.
  • Maintain active presence at industry events to strengthen brand visibility and trust.

Strategy & Market Insights

  • Provide NSW-specific insights to guide national strategy, service offerings, and capability development.
  • Monitor regulators, competitors, industry shifts, and talent opportunities across NSW/QLD.
  • Contribute learnings from NSW projects to improve tools, processes, and marketing materials.

Financial & Commercial Management

  • Scope new projects, prepare fee proposals, and manage budgets in partnership with the Head of Better Buildings (ESD).
  • Track NSW financial performance across revenue, pipeline, utilisation, and delivery efficiency.
  • Ensure commercial targets are met while maintaining exceptional client value.

Team Development & Knowledge Sharing

  • Mentor colleagues supporting NSW projects, helping them understand the local planning and regulatory environment.
  • Contribute to internal communities of practice and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
  • Pursue continuous professional development, accreditations, and training.

Qualifications & Experience

Must-Have

  • 8+ years in ESD, sustainable design, engineering, or built environment sustainability.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Energy Efficiency, Sustainable Design, or related fields.
  • Strong technical capability across ESD services with confidence to lead complex projects independently.
  • Deep understanding of NSW planning and development pathways (DA, SSDA, SEPPs including Sustainable Buildings SEPP, BASIX).
  • Proven client-facing and project management leadership with a strong industry network.
  • Sustainability accreditations: Green Star AP, WELL AP, NABERS, Passive House, etc.
