Position Overview - (Columbus, Cincinnati, Dayton, Cleveland)

We are seeking a highly skilled Bridge Inspection Lead to oversee and manage bridge inspection programs across Ohio. This role involves leading inspection teams, ensuring compliance with state and federal requirements, supervising data collection, and preparing detailed engineering reports. The ideal candidate has significant experience with NBIS inspections, strong leadership capabilities, and a passion for delivering high‑quality, safe, and reliable infrastructure solutions.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage bridge inspection teams in planning, scheduling, and executing field inspections for bridges and ancillary structures across Ohio.
  • Serve as Team Leader in accordance with NBIS requirements, providing technical direction and on‑site oversight.
  • Perform hands‑on inspections, including routine, fracture critical, underwater (if certified), and special inspections when required.
  • Conduct structural evaluations, rate bridge components, and identify deficiencies following ODOT and FHWA standards.
  • Ensure all field data, photos, and measurements are accurately documented and organized.
  • Prepare comprehensive inspection reports, including structural assessments, maintenance recommendations, and load rating updates.
  • Collaborate with project managers and engineers to ensure inspection deliverables are completed on time and meet quality standards.
  • Utilize inspection software such as AASHTOWare Bridge or ODOT-specific applications.
  • Coordinate traffic control plans, access equipment, and safety protocols for inspection environments.
  • Mentor junior staff, providing training on inspection techniques, safety procedures, and documentation practices.
  • Support proposal development, project scoping, and client communication for inspection assignments.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Ohio, or ability to obtain within six months.
  • Minimum 5-10 years of bridge inspection experience, including NBIS-compliant inspections.
  • Certified Bridge Inspection Team Leader per NBIS guidelines.
  • Strong knowledge of ODOT standards, FHWA inspection requirements, and national bridge evaluation practices.
  • Proficiency with inspection tools, field equipment, and bridge management databases.
  • Excellent report writing, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work at heights, around traffic, and in various weather conditions.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to field sites regularly.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience performing Fracture Critical or complex structure inspections.
  • Training or certification in SPRAT/rope access, UAS/drone operations, or NDT techniques.
  • Experience with load rating analysis and structural modeling software.
  • Familiarity with managing multi‑bridge inspection programs for public agencies.
