About the Company

Our client is a rapidly growing Data Center developer and operator delivering mission-critical infrastructure across ANZ. They are expanding their team to support a portfolio of hyperscale and enterprise data center developments.

As part of this growth, they are seeking a Design Manager to lead the design and technical delivery of complex data center projects from feasibility through to construction and commissioning.

The Role

Reporting to the Director, the Design Manager will take ownership of the design management process across multiple data center developments, ensuring technical excellence, stakeholder alignment, and successful project outcomes.

This position will work closely with consultants, contractors, utility providers, and internal stakeholders to manage the full design lifecycle while ensuring projects meet cost, schedule, operational, and performance requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the design process for new data center developments from concept through to construction.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary design teams across architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and specialist disciplines.
  • Review and challenge consultant designs to ensure compliance with project requirements, industry standards, and operational objectives.
  • Manage design programmes, design deliverables, and key project milestones.
  • Facilitate design workshops and stakeholder reviews to drive decision-making and project alignment.
  • Work closely with development, construction, operations, and commissioning teams throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Coordinate with utility providers and authorities to support power, water, and telecommunications requirements.
  • Identify design risks and implement mitigation strategies to minimise impact on project cost and schedule.
  • Support procurement activities including consultant selection, contractor engagement, and technical evaluations.
  • Ensure all designs are aligned with reliability, scalability, sustainability, and operational performance objectives.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • Experience delivering complex mission-critical, data center, industrial, healthcare, or major infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of MEP systems and critical infrastructure environments.
  • Experience managing external consultants and multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to manage budgets, schedules, and project risks.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced project environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Experience

  • Direct experience delivering hyperscale or colocation data center projects.
  • Understanding of Tier III/Tier IV data center design principles.
  • Knowledge of commissioning, operational readiness, and critical infrastructure requirements.
  • Experience working for a developer, owner/operator, consultancy, or major contractor.
