Position Summary

A Top 20 U.S. design firm and 100% employee-owned consulting organization is seeking a Licensed Land Surveyor / Surveying Manager to lead surveying operations in Thomaston, GA.

This leadership role is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing survey teams conducting land and utility surveys, including Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE). The position plays a critical role in delivering high-quality data for construction, mapping, land development, and infrastructure projects while ensuring safety, accuracy, and efficiency across all operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage multiple field crews and survey technicians

  • Plan, organize, and oversee survey operations, ensuring accuracy and efficiency

  • Perform survey calculations, assemble field data, and prepare legal descriptions

  • Prepare and review:

    • Boundary surveys

    • ALTA/NSPS surveys

    • Topographic surveys

  • Ensure quality control and quality assurance (QA/QC) across all deliverables

  • Manage project budgets, schedules, and billing

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for client relationships and project communication

  • Represent the organization in client meetings, presentations, and industry discussions

  • Support and drive business development efforts within the market

  • Lead, mentor, and develop team members through:

    • Goal setting

    • Performance management

    • Coaching and 1:1 engagement

  • Promote and enforce safe work practices across all survey staff


Qualifications

  • Professional Registered Land Surveyor (PLS/RLS)

  • 10+ years of experience in surveying

  • Strong leadership experience managing teams and projects

  • Working knowledge of:

    • AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation/InRoads

    • Federal, state, and local surveying regulations

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment

  • Valid driver's license and ability to pass motor vehicle screening and background check


Preferred Experience

  • Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) designating and locating

  • Aerial mapping, LiDAR, and sUAS technologies

  • Georgia DOT (GDOT) linear project surveying

  • Roadway and bridge construction surveying
