Natural Capital - Carbon Markets Specialist
Agriculture & Carbon Markets
Location: Sydney (Hybrid)
About the Opportunity
A specialist investment firm operating at the intersection of agriculture, natural capital, and carbon markets is seeking a commercially minded Financial Analyst to support investment analysis across large‑scale pastoral assets and integrated carbon projects.
This role sits at the nexus of cattle production, land valuation, and environmental markets, and will play a critical role in underwriting acquisitions, modelling carbon revenues, and supporting capital deployment decisions across real assets.
This is not a traditional corporate finance role. The successful candidate will understand that a hectare of land has both biological productivity and carbon value, and be able to model both with rigour.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain detailed financial models across:
- Pastoral operations (herd economics, stocking rates, rainfall variability, productivity scenarios)
- Carbon projects (including HIR and other land‑based methodologies where relevant)
- Integrated cattle + carbon investment structures
- Model carbon credit revenue streams and price scenarios (ACCU and broader carbon markets)
- Conduct acquisition and land valuation analysis, including:
- $/hectare assessments
- Carrying capacity and productivity assumptions
- Carbon potential and issuance profiles
- Analyse sensitivities across commodity prices, rainfall, carbon issuance, and policy settings
- Support M&A activity including due diligence, investment memoranda, and transaction analysis
- Work closely with operational teams to translate on‑ground data into financial forecasts
- Contribute to capital structuring and portfolio‑level investment decisions
Ideal Candidate Profile
You are likely to come from one of the following backgrounds:
- Agricultural investment, natural capital, or carbon markets
- Corporate finance, infrastructure, or private equity with exposure to real assets
- Principal‑side or advisory roles with strong financial modelling requirements
You will bring:
- 2-5 years' experience in financial analysis, investment modelling, or transaction support
- Strong Excel‑based financial modelling and valuation capability
- Exposure to carbon markets or land‑based environmental projects (direct or indirect)
- A commercial mindset and comfort operating in a lean, entrepreneurial environment
Experience with pastoral operations, cattle systems, or agricultural assets is highly regarded, though financial capability is the primary requirement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Commerce, Agricultural Economics, or similar
- Postgraduate finance qualification (e.g. CFA, Master of Applied Finance) advantageous
- Accounting or transaction background viewed favourably
Why This Role
- Direct exposure to real assets and carbon‑linked investment decisions
- Opportunity to work on integrated land‑use strategies combining agriculture and carbon
- High‑impact role within a specialist investment platform operating in a fast‑evolving market
- Strong learning curve across carbon project economics and natural capital investing
