My client is a highly regarded, nationally recognised engineering and environmental consultancy with a broad footprint across the United States and a growing international presence. They are currently seeking a Project Geotechnical Engineer to join their Chicago-based team. This position is ideal for an experienced geotechnical professional looking to combine technical expertise with project coordination and field involvement, contributing to a diverse range of development and infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out advanced geotechnical analyses and design of deep foundation elements and underpinning systems, as well as perform specialised engineering inspections
- Develop and manage technical documentation, including proposals, reports, construction drawings, and project-related correspondence
- Oversee field investigations along with standard earthwork and foundation construction activities
- Manage multiple assignments concurrently, ensuring delivery within established budgets, timelines, and project requirements
- Plan and organise project tasks, including the preparation and management of project budgets
- Produce progress updates, prepare change order documentation, and support invoicing and billing processes
- Undertake additional duties as required to support project delivery
Requirements / Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering (Master's degree with a geotechnical focus preferred)
- Professional Engineer (PE) licence required
- Minimum of 6 years experience in geotechnical engineering
- At least 3 years of field-based experience in geotechnical investigations and construction observation
- Experience with earthworks, deep foundation systems, subgrade preparation, ground improvement, and excavation support methods (including tiebacks)
- Demonstrated experience preparing technical reports, specifications, and construction documentation
- Proven ability to manage projects, budgets, and client relationships
- Familiarity with geotechnical analysis software and tools
- Working knowledge of relevant codes, standards, and regulatory requirements
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to mentor junior staff and contribute to team development
- Comfortable working independently as well as within multidisciplinary teams
- Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel to project sites when required
