Position Summary
The Senior Manager of Design & Engineering is a strategic leadership role responsible for overseeing the technical development, execution, and delivery of engineering solutions for solar PV, energy storage, EV charging, and microgrid projects. This position plays a key role in shaping engineering standards, guiding cross-functional collaboration, and driving innovation across the organization.
Responsibilities
Key Duties
- Lead the design and development of complex solar PV systems-including canopy, ground-mount, and rooftop installations-ensuring all construction documents meet NEC code and permitting requirements using industry-standard design software.
- Oversee the integration of energy storage systems into both new and existing solar projects.
- Facilitate and lead technical design review meetings across Sales, Development, and Construction teams, and participate in project costing discussions throughout various project stages.
- Represent the company as the technical lead in coordination meetings with internal and external stakeholders across all phases of project execution.
- Collaborate with team members to define and refine engineering processes, establish performance metrics, allocate resources, and ensure alignment with strategic goals and technical training needs.
- Develop and enhance system engineering standards focused on safety, product evaluation, and cost efficiency.
Qualifications
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in C&I solar PV design and engineering.
- At least 2 years of experience with energy storage systems.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a leadership role managing engineering teams.
- At least 2 years of experience working with utilities in New England, New York, or New Jersey.
- Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline such as Mechanical, Electrical, or Energy Engineering; advanced degree preferred.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred or willingness to obtain.
- Strong proficiency in reviewing electrical single-line diagrams and point-to-point diagrams for PV and storage monitoring systems.
- Experience leading complex design and costing reviews, and approving electrical Bills of Materials (BOMs) in collaboration with Electrical PEs.
- NABCEP PV Installation Certification is required.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Helioscope, PVSyst, Salesforce, Google Workspace, and Microsoft Office.
