Transportation Engineer II
Position Summary
The Transportation Engineer II supports the Project Manager and project team through efficient, high-quality plan production. This role requires a self-motivated individual who works well both independently and in a collaborative, team-oriented environment. The ideal candidate is capable of making sound independent and design decisions while contributing to successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop complex roadway and intersection alignments/layouts, right-of-way plans, and drainage plans.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of hydrology and drainage design principles.
- Prepare phased ESPC plans and BMP designs.
- Apply GDOT design standards using MicroStation and InRoads/OpenRoads.
- Quickly learn and apply new design procedures, standards, and local ordinances.
- Coordinate with utility providers to support utility relocation efforts.
- Generate accurate cross sections and profiles using MicroStation and InRoads/OpenRoads.
- Prepare Signing and Marking Plans and Construction Phasing Plans.
- Apply knowledge of GDOT's Project Development Process (PDP), Preconstruction Project Guide (PPG), and Engineering Design Guide (EDG).
- Interpret and evaluate survey data and documentation to ensure quality and accuracy.
- Prepare detailed and accurate construction cost estimates.
- Anticipate project needs related to scope, schedule, budget, and client expectations.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and staff.
- Communicate effectively and build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university.
- Minimum of four (4) years of relevant transportation design or related experience.
- Registered Engineer-in-Training (EIT) in Georgia required.
- Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in Georgia preferred.
- Strong proficiency in MicroStation and InRoads/OpenRoads.
- Working knowledge of Hydraflow, Storm Sewer, HEC‑1, and HEC‑2.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Project, and Adobe/PDF software.
