Transportation Engineer II

Position Summary

The Transportation Engineer II supports the Project Manager and project team through efficient, high-quality plan production. This role requires a self-motivated individual who works well both independently and in a collaborative, team-oriented environment. The ideal candidate is capable of making sound independent and design decisions while contributing to successful project delivery.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop complex roadway and intersection alignments/layouts, right-of-way plans, and drainage plans.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of hydrology and drainage design principles.
  • Prepare phased ESPC plans and BMP designs.
  • Apply GDOT design standards using MicroStation and InRoads/OpenRoads.
  • Quickly learn and apply new design procedures, standards, and local ordinances.
  • Coordinate with utility providers to support utility relocation efforts.
  • Generate accurate cross sections and profiles using MicroStation and InRoads/OpenRoads.
  • Prepare Signing and Marking Plans and Construction Phasing Plans.
  • Apply knowledge of GDOT's Project Development Process (PDP), Preconstruction Project Guide (PPG), and Engineering Design Guide (EDG).
  • Interpret and evaluate survey data and documentation to ensure quality and accuracy.
  • Prepare detailed and accurate construction cost estimates.
  • Anticipate project needs related to scope, schedule, budget, and client expectations.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and staff.
  • Communicate effectively and build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of relevant transportation design or related experience.
  • Registered Engineer-in-Training (EIT) in Georgia required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in Georgia preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in MicroStation and InRoads/OpenRoads.
  • Working knowledge of Hydraflow, Storm Sewer, HEC‑1, and HEC‑2.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Project, and Adobe/PDF software.
