Building Automation Programmer / Software Engineer (Tridium Niagara)
Location: Chicago, IL (On-site / Hybrid)
We are actively seeking a highly skilled and technically driven Building Automation Programmer / Software Engineer with deep expertise in Tridium Niagara to support a growing portfolio of commercial building automation projects across the Chicago market. This role is ideal for someone who takes ownership of their work and has the ability to design, develop, and implement BAS solutions entirely from scratch, rather than simply modifying or maintaining existing systems.
In this position, you will play a critical role in delivering fully customized building automation solutions, working hands-on with system architecture, programming logic, integrations, and commissioning activities across a variety of commercial environments including office buildings, healthcare facilities, data centers, and other complex infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and program Building Automation Systems from the ground up using Tridium Niagara (N4 preferred)
- Create fully customized control logic, PX graphics, station architecture, and integrations without reliance on templates
- Integrate HVAC systems, energy management systems, lighting controls, and other smart building technologies into centralized BAS platforms
- Interpret and implement sequences of operation, ensuring systems meet design intent and performance requirements
- Lead or support commissioning efforts, including system startup, troubleshooting, and optimization in live building environments
- Work cross-functionally with engineers, project managers, and field technicians to deliver high-quality solutions
- Diagnose and resolve system issues, ensuring reliability and efficiency across installed systems
Required Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience programming BAS systems from scratch in a real-world, project-based environment
- Strong hands-on expertise with Tridium Niagara AX and/or N4 (certifications a plus)
- Deep understanding of DDC programming, control strategies, and HVAC system operation
- Experience working with communication protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, and LonWorks
- Proven background delivering solutions within commercial building environments
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, and sequences of operation
Preferred Experience:
- Exposure to mission-critical environments such as data centers or healthcare facilities
- Experience developing user interfaces and dashboards within Niagara
- Familiarity with energy optimization strategies or analytics platforms
