Controls Technician - Building Automation Systems (BAS)

Overview
We are seeking a skilled Controls Technician to support installation, commissioning, and service of Building Automation Systems (BAS) across commercial and data center projects in the Austin area. This role will work closely with project teams, engineers, and clients to ensure systems are installed, programmed, and operating efficiently.
This is a hands-on position ideal for someone with experience in HVAC controls, electrical systems, and BAS platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, wire, and commission building automation and control systems (HVAC, lighting, and energy systems)
- Perform system startup, testing, and troubleshooting of BAS components
- Diagnose and resolve issues with controllers, sensors, actuators, and field devices
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, control drawings, and sequence of operations
- Support programming, point-to-point checkout, and system optimization
- Conduct preventative maintenance and service calls for existing client systems
- Interface directly with clients, contractors, and internal engineering teams
- Ensure all systems meet project specifications, timelines, and safety standards
- Provide onsite technical support and training to end-users when needed
Qualifications
- 2-5+ years of experience in building automation, controls, or HVAC systems
- Strong understanding of:
- HVAC systems (chillers, boilers, air handling units, VAVs)
- Controls wiring and low-voltage electrical systems
- BAS protocols (BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks preferred)
- Experience withBAS platforms such as:
- Siemens, Johnson Controls (Metasys), Trane (Tracer), Honeywell, or Niagara (Tridium)
- Ability to read and interpret schematics and technical documents
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel locally to job sites
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical degree or certification in HVAC, electrical, or controls engineering
- Experience on data center or mission-critical environments
- Exposure to SCADA or energy management systems
- Programming experience (Niagara N4, PLCs, or similar platforms)
