Senior Mechanical Engineer - Data Centre Projects (Japan)

Are you a mechanical engineering expert who thrives in fast‑growing, high‑performance environments? Join a global data centre operator expanding rapidly across Asia and Europe. You'll play a key role in delivering next‑generation, energy‑efficient facilities that support leading financial, enterprise and cloud customers.

What You'll Do

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will:

  • Lead mechanical design management across new builds, expansions, and upgrade projects.
  • Oversee external design consultants, run design workshops, and ensure alignment with global engineering standards.
  • Review and approve technical submissions, BIM models, and design proposals.
  • Advise on cutting‑edge mechanical technologies that improve efficiency, PUE and long‑term sustainability.
  • Support testing & commissioning activities (FAT, SAT, IST) and ensure full compliance with internal policies.
  • Collaborate daily with construction, operations, procurement and commercial teams.
  • Drive discussions with general contractors to ensure milestones, documentation and handover requirements are met.
  • Interface with customers to translate technical needs into clear design requirements.

What You Bring

  • Mechanical Engineering degree with 5-10 years of mechanical design experience, ideally in data centres or mission‑critical environments.
  • Strong knowledge of Japanese building codes, mechanical systems and MEP design.
  • Professional certifications such as:
    • First‑Class Building Services Engineer (Mechanical)
    • Professional Engineer (Mechanical)
    • First‑Class Architect
  • Experience with BIM, BMS/EPMS coordination and design management processes.
  • Native‑level Japanese communication skills and good English proficiency.
  • A proactive, detail‑oriented mindset and ability to work under pressure.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and occasionally overseas.
