The company is known for its stability, culture, and long-term client relationships across central and northern Wisconsin. The geotechnical department was recently founded by an industry veteran who has already built the foundation of the practice. The long-term plan is to develop a full-service, independently operating team within five years. The firm is now seeking an experienced Geotechnical Engineer who can become the future Department Lead as part of a structured succession plan.
Position Overview
The Geotechnical Office Lead and Principal Consultant will play a key role in building, guiding, and expanding the firm's geotechnical practice. This position is designed for someone who wants to take ownership of a developing discipline, elevate technical standards, influence team structure, and support long-term departmental growth.
You will work closely with the current department founder, who will provide mentorship, assist with client transition, and manage high-level business development. The objective is for you to transition into full department leadership over time.

Key Responsibilities
* Lead geotechnical engineering projects across commercial, industrial, and institutional markets
* Perform and oversee analyses involving foundations, slope stability, retaining structures, and dam or embankment-related work
* Mentor and support junior engineering staff as the department grows
* Coordinate with drilling operations and CMT personnel
* Prepare and review geotechnical reports and interpretations
* Support client relationships and assist with business development as needed
* Collaborate with internal civil, surveying, and landscape architecture teams
Qualifications
Required
* Professional Engineer license
* Ten or more years of geotechnical engineering experience
* Broad technical capabilities across multiple market sectors
* Strong communication skills and client engagement experience
* Ability to step into a future department leadership position
Preferred
* Experience with ground improvement technologies such as Geopier or RAP
* Project management and staff development experience
* Interest in long-term succession planning and practice leadership
