Graphics Specialist - Building Automation Systems (BAS)

Role Overview

We are seeking a talented Graphics Specialist to support the design, creation, and deployment of high‑quality graphics for Building Automation Systems (BAS). This role is responsible for producing intuitive, visually engaging user interfaces that help customers monitor, control, and optimize HVAC, lighting, and energy systems within commercial and industrial facilities.

The ideal candidate understands both visual design principles and the technical requirements of BAS platforms, ensuring that graphics are accurate, functional, and aligned with project standards.


Key Responsibilities

Graphics Development

  • Create high-quality system, floorplan, and equipment-level graphics forBAS platforms such as:
    • Tridium Niagara (AX/N4)
    • Distech EC-Net
    • Johnson Controls Metasys
    • Siemens Desigo
    • Honeywell
    • Automated Logic
  • Develop animated and interactive graphics representing HVAC equipment (VAV boxes, AHUs, boilers, chillers, heat pumps, VRF, etc.).
  • Import and manipulate CAD files, floorplans, and equipment images for use in BAS dashboards.
  • Build custom graphical elements using SVG, PNG, or vector-based assets.

Project Execution

  • Collaborate with design engineers and programmers to ensure graphics reflect correct:
    • Points lists
    • Equipment sequences
    • Naming conventions
    • Control strategies
  • Ensure graphics meet project specifications, customer standards, and internal style guidelines.
  • Prepare graphics packages for deployment and coordinate with controls technicians for final implementation.

Quality Assurance

  • Validate graphical interfaces for accuracy, usability, and responsiveness.
  • Troubleshoot display, scaling, or mapping issues within BAS workstations.
  • Conduct revisions based on team feedback, site changes, or programming updates.

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in Building Automation Systems, HVAC controls, or related technical fields.
  • Proficiency with at least one major BAS graphics environment (Niagara, Distech, JCI, Siemens, etc.).
  • Strong skills with graphic design orvisualization tools:
    • Adobe Illustrator / Photoshop
    • Visio
    • AutoCAD or Bluebeam (for interpreting and importing drawings)
  • Understanding of HVAC systems and mechanical equipment operation.
  • Familiarity with BAS naming standards, point mapping, and control concepts.
  • Ability to work with vector graphics, layered drawings, and scalable UI elements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Niagara N4 graphics frameworks or HTML5-based UI components.
  • Knowledge of scripting or tagging frameworks (Niagara tagging, Haystack, etc.).
  • Experience with 3D modeling tools (SketchUp, Revit, or similar).
  • Background in UI/UX design or dashboard development.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration with engineering and field teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Creative mindset with strong problem‑solving abilities.
