H&H Modeller
Overview
Our client is looking for a motivated Hydrologic & Hydraulic (H&H) Modeler to join their growing Water Resources team in Houston, Texas. In this role, you will support the planning, analysis, and design of stormwater, drainage, flood control, and water infrastructure projects across Texas. The ideal candidate is technically strong, detail-oriented, and passionate about solving complex water challenges in a dynamic, flood-prone environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform hydrologic and hydraulic modeling for projects including urban drainage systems, floodplain analysis, detention design, and watershed studies
- Develop and calibrate models using HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS (1D/2D), SWMM, and ICPR
- Prepare drainage studies, floodplain reports, and engineering design documentation
- Conduct rainfall-runoff analysis, channel routing, and stormwater system evaluations
- Assist in the design of stormwater management systems, detention/retention basins, and conveyance infrastructure
- Apply local, state, and federal criteria, including FEMA, HCFCD, and City of Houston standards
- Utilize GIS and survey data for model development and analysis
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and support technical reporting and QA/QC
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related field
- 2-6+ years of relevant H&H modeling or water resources experience
- Proficiency with HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWMM, and/or InfoWorks
- Familiarity with Texas drainage criteria (HCFCD, City of Houston, TxDOT) preferred
- Experience with GIS tools (e.g., ArcGIS)
- EIT required; Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
Preferred Skills
- Experience with 2D hydraulic modeling and floodplain mapping
- Knowledge of FEMA CLOMR/LOMR processes
- Basic scripting or automation (e.g., Python) is a plus
- Experience with resiliency or flood mitigation projects
