We are partnering with a well-established engineering consultancy seeking a Lead Hydraulic Engineer to provide technical leadership, project delivery oversight, and client engagement across a diverse portfolio of transportation and water resources projects throughout Mississippi and the Southeast.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced hydraulic engineer looking to lead complex bridge and drainage projects, mentor technical staff, and play a key role in growing a high-performing hydraulics practice. The successful candidate will have significant experience working with DOT clients, hydraulic modeling, floodplain management, and multidisciplinary transportation infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical lead for hydraulics and drainage projects.
  • Manage bridge hydraulics, bridge scour evaluations, drainage studies, and floodplain analyses.
  • Lead one-dimensional and two-dimensional hydraulic modeling efforts using industry-standard software.
  • Oversee project delivery, schedules, budgets, QA/QC reviews, and resource allocation.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with transportation agencies, municipalities, and public sector clients.
  • Support business development activities including proposals, interviews, and strategic pursuits.
  • Mentor and develop junior and mid-level engineers.
  • Collaborate with transportation, water resources, environmental, and structural teams on multidisciplinary projects.
  • Provide expertise on FEMA compliance, floodplain management, watershed studies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to the growth and long-term strategy of the hydraulics practice.

Desired Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in hydraulic engineering, drainage design, or water resources engineering.
  • Strong background in transportation hydraulics and DOT-related projects.
  • Experience with bridge hydraulics, scour analysis, culvert design, stormwater systems, and floodplain studies.
  • Proven project management experience involving budgets, schedules, and client management.
  • Experience leading technical teams and mentoring engineers.
  • Familiarity with federal and state hydraulic design standards.
  • Business development and client relationship experience preferred.

Technical Skills

Experience with several of the following tools is highly desirable:

  • HEC-RAS
  • HEC-HMS
  • SRH-2D
  • SMS / WMS
  • HY-8
  • OpenRoads
  • FHWA Hydraulic Toolbox
  • StreamStats

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, Biological, or related Engineering discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required in MS.
  • Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) preferred.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to manage client relationships and lead multidisciplinary teams.
