Job Captain
We are seeking a Job Captain to join our team in the New York office (hybrid) and will work at the client site in Chesapeake, VA. This position plays a key part in ensuring the timely, accurate, and code-compliant delivery of multi-site retail projects from design development through construction.
The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver who thrives in fast-paced environments and is committed to design consistency, technical accuracy, and cross-team coordination.
What You'll Do
Partner with the Project Manager and help guide designers in producing and issuing accurate sets of construction documents as well as other required client deliverables
Coordinate with landlords, MEP, and Structural consultant teams to ensure complete and timely project delivery
Lead, mentor, and train junior Designers
Research, review, and implement CBC & IBC codes
Address plan check comments from local jurisdictions
Issue construction documents for bid and permit
Perform site surveys & punch walks
Perform job site visits to review the progress of construction; prepare and issue field reports
Participate in various aspects of construction administration; respond to RFIs, revise drawings based on RFIs, bulletins, and addenda, and review submittals
Travel may be required
Minimum Qualifications
Degree in Architecture or equivalent experience
Experience with retail rollout or multi-site commercial projects, including site adaptation of prototypical designs
Proficiency in Revit and Bluebeam; working knowledge of SketchUp and Photoshop is a plus
Strong understanding of building codes, especially IBC, CBC, and ADA, with the ability to apply them effectively to drawing sets
Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Experience leading coordination efforts with clients, consultants, and team members
Nice to Have
Experience delegating tasks to junior staff and conducting thorough QC reviews
Ability to identify and implement process improvements in drawing production and team workflows
Experience working within a multi-office, cross-time-zone firm structure
