Position Overview
We are seeking a detail‑oriented Junior Project Scheduler to support planning and scheduling activities for major heavy civil and rail infrastructure projects throughout the NYC metro area. This entry‑level role is ideal for someone with foundational construction knowledge and strong analytical skills who is looking to build a career in project controls.
The Junior Project Scheduler will assist in developing, updating, and maintaining project schedules for complex civil work including track replacement, station upgrades, tunnels, structures, utilities, and right‑of‑way coordination.
Key Responsibilities
Project Scheduling Support
- Assist in developing baseline schedules using Primavera P6 for heavy civil and rail construction projects.
- Update schedules regularly based on field progress reports, subcontractor updates, and project team input.
- Maintain detailed activity logic ties, work sequences, durations, and critical path analysis.
Project Controls & Reporting
- Prepare schedule look‑ahead reports, progress dashboards, and variance analyses.
- Track progress against milestones and critical project activities.
- Support the development of recovery schedules, time impact analyses, and forecasts.
Collaboration & Communication
- Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, engineers, and subcontractors to gather schedule-related data.
- Attend project meetings and take part in discussions related to sequencing, productivity, and schedule risks.
- Support the presentation of schedule updates to internal leadership and external clients.
Field & Technical Support
- Conduct site visits to verify work progress and validate schedule accuracy.
- Assist in analyzing field productivity, resource usage, and planned vs. actual progress.
- Support constructability reviews and sequencing strategies for rail and civil infrastructure work.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Project Controls, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in construction scheduling or project controls
- Basic understanding of heavy civil construction methods (earthwork, utilities, structures) and/or rail systems.
- Proficiency in Primavera P6 required
- Proficiency in Excel; familiarity with Bluebeam, AutoCAD, or other construction software is a plus.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and time‑management skills.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and collaborate with field and office teams.
- Willingness to conduct field visits across the NYC metro area, including rail right‑of‑way locations.
Preferred Experience
- Coursework or training in scheduling, critical path method (CPM), or project controls.
- Exposure to public agency projects (MTA, LIRR, Amtrak, NJ Transit, DOT, DEP, DDC, Port Authority).
- Knowledge of rail safety protocols or track‑access rules (training provided).
