Land Survey Technician
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Land Survey Technician to support field surveying operations for transportation, land development, utility, municipal, and construction projects. This position plays a critical role in collecting accurate field data, assisting with survey layout, and ensuring projects are completed efficiently and safely. The ideal candidate will enjoy working outdoors, operating survey equipment, and collaborating with survey crews, project managers, engineers, and clients to deliver high-quality survey services.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist with boundary, topographic, as-built, and construction staking surveys for a variety of public and private sector projects.
* Operate and maintain survey equipment including GPS receivers, robotic total stations, levels, data collectors, and other field instruments.
* Collect, verify, and document accurate field measurements and survey data.
* Read and interpret construction plans, plats, deeds, easements, legal descriptions, and survey maps.
* Establish survey control points and assist with project layout activities.
* Perform construction staking and layout for roadway, utility, site development, and infrastructure projects.
* Maintain clear and organized field notes, sketches, and daily reports.
* Ensure equipment is properly maintained, stored, and calibrated.
* Assist in identifying and resolving field issues while maintaining project schedules.
* Work closely with Survey Crew Chiefs, Professional Land Surveyors, Engineers, and Project Managers to ensure project requirements are met.
* Follow all company safety standards, procedures, and best practices while working in the field.
* Support quality control efforts by reviewing collected data for accuracy and completeness.
Qualifications
* High school diploma or equivalent required.
* 3+ years of surveying experience preferred
* Experience operating GPS, total stations, and electronic data collection equipment is preferred.
* Basic understanding of boundary, topographic, and construction surveying principles.
* Ability to read and interpret survey documents, construction plans, and legal descriptions.
* Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
* Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
* Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain.
* Ability to lift and carry survey equipment as needed.
* Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience with Trimble, Leica, Topcon, or similar survey equipment.
* Experience supporting transportation, utility, municipal, or land development projects.
* Interest in pursuing a long-term career in the surveying profession.
