Survey Project Manager - Job Description
We are seeking a Survey Project Manager to lead and oversee a wide range of land surveying projects in support of civil engineering, land development, environmental, and infrastructure initiatives. This role involves managing project scopes, coordinating field and office teams, ensuring quality control, and maintaining strong client relationships. The ideal candidate is a technically skilled survey professional with strong leadership abilities and a proven track record of delivering high‑quality survey work on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee survey projects from proposal through completion, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource planning
- Lead coordination between field crews, CAD/office technicians, and project engineers to ensure accurate and timely project deliverables
- Prepare, review, and approve boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, utility, and construction survey plans
- Conduct quality reviews of survey data, field notes, CAD files, and final deliverables to ensure accuracy and compliance with project requirements
- Interface with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies to address project needs, resolve issues, and support ongoing relationships
- Develop project proposals, cost estimates, and scope documents
- Oversee adherence to safety standards, company protocols, and industry best practices
- Mentor and support the development of survey staff, including training on field equipment, data collection methods, and software
- Support integration of emerging technologies such as LiDAR, UAV/drone mapping, 3D scanning, and GIS applications
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams on complex land development and infrastructure projects
Qualifications
- 7+ years of progressive survey experience, including project management responsibilities
- Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license preferred; ability to obtain is a plus
- Strong technical proficiency with GPS, robotic total stations, digital levels, LiDAR, and related survey technologies
- Proficiency in CAD platforms (AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred), survey processing software, and GIS tools
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Excellent communication, organizational, and client‑facing skills
- Strong understanding of local and state survey regulations, standards, and requirements
