Roofing Consultant / Designer
Role Overview
The firm is seeking a Roofing Consultant/Designer to join its Minneapolis office. This role involves the design and detailing of roofing systems, field verification of existing conditions, and the preparation of construction documents. The successful candidate will work closely with clients and internal teams to develop both new and remedial roofing solutions that meet performance, aesthetic, and regulatory requirements.
This is a hands-on role that combines technical design work with field investigation and client interaction. It's ideal for someone who enjoys problem-solving, working outdoors, and contributing to the full lifecycle of building enclosure projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and detail low-slope and steep-slope roofing systems for new and existing buildings
- Develop architectural and remedial details and specifications in collaboration with clients and internal consultants
- Conduct on-site roof assessments and field verification of existing conditions
- Interpret and coordinate architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing drawings
- Prepare technical reports, construction documents, and specifications using MS Word, Excel, Bluebeam, and AutoCAD
- Participate in project meetings and communicate findings and recommendations clearly
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and best practices
Requirements
- Strong knowledge of roofing systems, sealants, flashings, insulation, and air/water/vapor barriers
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings and specifications
- Comfortable working at heights and in outdoor environments, including roof edges with appropriate safety equipment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in MS Office, Bluebeam, and AutoCAD
- Valid driver's license and ability to pass background checks for access to secure facilities
- Willingness to travel periodically for site visits and project meetings
Preferred Qualifications
- Licensure or progress toward licensure as an Architect or Engineer
- RRC (Registered Roof Consultant) certification or in progress
- Experience with Revit and wall system design
- Familiarity with building enclosure commissioning and forensic investigation
